i was on two benghazi investigations. one that was a bipartisan investigation done by the house intelligence committee that debunked all these conspiracy theories about hillary clinton, but that didn't reach the right conclusion for kevin mccarthy. so we have this partisan select committee that was chaired by trey gowdy. it had one mission, tear downhillry's numbers. that was a terrible abuse of congressional process and taxpayer dollars. does that mean that you can't have a properly constituted select committee? no. congress can do the job right. but the best way to do it is to form an independent commission like the 9/11 commission, that's outside the political process, and i hope that we can find the votes in the senate to do that. it's clearly in the public interest. but if that doesn't work, we'll have to consider alternatives, not in a partisan way like benghazi, but in a thorough and objective way. but we're going to get answers one way or the other. we're not going to look the other way as a lot of republicans wou

i go back to the benghazi committee. when that was formed in 2016, there was a real question mark as to whether then leader pelosi would place democrats or boycott it. for a brief period of time there was a movement on the online left to put one democrat, grayson, on the committee to be a completely disruptive force. eventually it was better to have a seat at the table to know what was coming to influence where the committee went and insight into its work than to be on the outside looking in. arguably she made the right call. the benghazi committee did last for a while. democrats generally knew where the committee was heading, what kind of subpoenas it was going to issue and so forth. mccarthy faces a similar choice. does he want to be a participate in a committee that will go on or without him? does he want insight into what will happen? and if so, because pelosi has veritable veto power, who could get by her screening? the real question mark is on mccarthy. she'll find the right people to put on there. mccarthy has to
